A Note from BM/ST Frank Carpenter-December

With 2021 coming to an end, there are a few things that are coming up. The notices have gone out from Wilson McShane that will need to be sent back in regarding spousal coverage. These need to be returned to Wilson McShane ASAP to be sure that spouses continue to maintain their health care coverage if they meet the requirements.

We also want to invite you to our "Santa Claus" Event on December 11th from 11-1pm. Bring the kiddos and your camera!

Next up is that we have multiple contracts expiring a few months into 2022. If the contract you are working under is about to expire, please attend your Local Union meeting as discussions are going on about the specific contracts per area and trade at the respective meetings.

The District Council Bylaws are in the process of being amended. The proposed changes have been approved by both the Bylaws Committee and the Delegates of the District Council. The amendments have been sent to the International for review and once we get the ok, we will take them to the membership for a vote. This will also be discussed at the meetings.

Now for some bad news, one of our retired members, Bob Johnson took his own life the morning of December 3, 2021. I always remember Bob having a smile on his face every time he came by the Hall. While Bob isn’t the only person we have lost to sucide, if you or someone you know is having trouble or just needs to talk to someone, please reach out to me or any of us on staff at District Council 3. Most of the staff are certified Mental Health First Responders.

Mental Health Awareness is one of the many things we have been focusing on not only at District Council 3 but throughout the entire IUPAT. Make sure you check out our Member Assistance Program and the IUPAT’S Helping Hands Program.
