Training

We are the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, or IUPAT. We represent men and women in the United States and Canada who work in what are called the Finishing Trades - commercial and industrial painting, drywall finishing, floor covering, glazing, convention display and signs.

The Painters and Allied Trades District Council 3 Joint Apprenticeship & Training Center is a partnership between District Council 3 and the contractors that employ members of the our Union. Our Apprenticeship Program is a high quality, work-based training for those who want to advance in a satisfying and rewarding career in the Finishing Trades. You will be a part of a high skilled training program preparing you for a future in the skilled Building Trades.

What we do

IUPAT DC 3 apprentices prepare for careers in painting and decorating, drywall finishing, and glazing.

We...
  • Paint indoor and exterior projects—old and new—as well as large public works structures—such as bridges and water towers. 
  • Finish drywall for basic and elaborate structural designs. 
  • Hang wallcoverings and apply attractive faux finishes in homes, commercial businesses, and office buildings.
  • Apply durable industrial coatings to factories and industrial facilities.
  • Operate high-pressure washing equipment.
  • Install windows in new and old homes and businesses.
  • Construct curtain wall systems and skylights.
