From the Constitution of the IUPAT:
We accomplish these goals through our CORE CommitteeOBJECTS Sec. 2. The objects of this International Union are: To organize workers and to improve their lives and livelihoods and the welfare of their families through the benefits of collective bargaining; To aid members to become more skillful and efficient workers; To promote general knowledge and education; To improve and better their wages, hours and conditions of labor; To cultivate friendship among the members of the International and render assistance in securing employment; To promote individual rights and recognition in the member’s trade or occupation; To raise funds for the benefit of sick, disabled or unemployed members, and the families of deceased members who continuously complied with our laws; To unite into one labor organization all workers eligible for membership, regardless of religion, race, creed, color, national origin, age, gender or sexual orientation; To secure improved wages, hours, working conditions and other economic advantages for our members and their families through organizing and collective bargaining, through advancement of our standing in the community and in the labor movement, and other lawful methods; To provide educational advancement and training for officers, employees and members; To safeguard and promote the principle of free collective bargaining, the rights of all workers and the security and welfare of all the people by political education and other community activity; To protect and strengthen our democratic institutions and preserve and perpetuate the cherished traditions of democracy; To protect and preserve the union as an institution and in the performance of its legal and contractual obligations; To protect and enhance the stature and well-being of workers and their families by promoting and securing the passage of progressive legislation; To create a marketplace in which an atmosphere of labor/ management cooperation will enhance prosperity for union employers while, at the same time, ensuring job security, safety, training and excellent wages and benefits for our members; And such other objects, for which working people may lawfully combine, having in view their mutual protection and benefit. It is recognized that the problems that this labor organization will confront are not limited to “bread and butter” unionism or to organization and collective bargaining alone, but encompass a broad spectrum of economic and social objectives as set forth above and as the union may determine from time to time. We, therefore, determine and assert that the participation of this labor organization, individually and with other organizations, in the pursuit and attainment of the objectives set forth herein are for the sole benefit of the organization and its members and their families.
